Description of the Programme:
The Bachelor of Social Work and Social Administration aims at producing graduates
who are equipped with theoretical and practical skills that are relevant for the holistic
transformation of society. By integrating cutting edge professional skills, a passion for
transformation, and integrity of character into social work practice, these graduates should
be agents of holistic transformation in their localities and beyond. The programme is built
around the core values which govern the university’s mission and practice.
Programme Rationale
With a fast growing population of needy people on one hand, and a declining social
service delivery system on the other, Uganda is in dire need of a dynamic generation of social
work professionals who will reach out and make a difference. This difference can be made by
empowering the population focus on the local untapped potential for production and reorganizing
social institutions to serve the common good. The Bachelor of Social Work and Social Administration
at Africa Renewal University is committed to making this difference by equipping individuals who will exhibit:

Program Objectives
Major Objective
The Bachelor of Social Work and Social Administration aims at producing graduates who are
equipped with theoretical and practical skills that are relevant for the holistic
transformation of society.
The programme is specifically designed to prepare students to:
• Be able to work with communities in identifying, mobilizing and managing community resources for sustainable development.
• Be servant leaders willing to sacrifice for the well-being of society.
• Have ability to use critical thinking as a tool for assessing, understanding and devising appropriate interventions to meet community needs.
• Integrate Biblical principles into social work practice so as to holistically address individual and community needs.
• Have working knowledge of social policy and human rights so as to advocate for social justice.
• Have an understanding of human development and behavioural theories so as to bring about transformation in man as God intended.
• Employ appropriate counselling skills to address various social needs and apply social work ethics in practice.
• Understand the role of culture and social systems in determining community and social development.
• Have foundational skills in research, writing, communication and computer application for academic and professional excellence.
Requirements for Direct Entry Scheme
• Uganda Certificate of Education (O’ Level) with a minimum of five (5)
passes and Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (A’ Level) with a minimum of two (2)
principal passes (preferred but not limited to economics, geography, entrepreneurship,
and agriculture) obtained at the same sitting.
• The minimum requirement for direct entry from the 8-4-4 system shall be
C+ or its equivalent.
Requirements for the Diploma Holders’ Entry Scheme:
• A relevant diploma (with an upper second) or credit obtained from an institution recognized by National Council for Higher Education.
Requirements for Mature Age Entry Scheme
• A pass of 50 percent or higher in Mature Age examination, obtained and certified from a center recognized by National Council for Higher Education.
