Cultural Adaptation & Student Support

Thriving Together—Where Every Student Belongs

Starting university is a big leap—especially when you’re stepping into a new culture, a new system, or a new way of learning. Whether you're from across the country or across a border, we want you to feel seen, supported, and genuinely welcomed at Africa Renewal University.

Orientation That Feels Like Home

Your first real introduction to AfRU happens during our comprehensive orientation program, designed not just to inform, but to connect.

On the first day, you’ll join fellow students, faculty, and staff in the Multipurpose Hall for a full-day introduction that includes:

  • The university’s vision, values, and leadership team

  • How academics work at AfRU

  • Health, safety, and counseling resources available to all students

  • Spiritual life: chapel, mentoring, and fellowship opportunities

  • A walk-through of the student handbook and facilities

  • Orientation to Moodle and the e-learning platform

  • Library use and digital resources

  • Introductions to student leadership (Guild Council) and your rights as a student

It’s not just about knowing where things are—it’s about starting your journey with clarity, connection, and community.

  • For International Students

We understand the extra layers that come with moving across borders: visas, adjustment to local customs, and navigating language. Our team supports you with:

    • Admissions and visa processing assistance

    • Orientation sessions tailored for non-Ugandan students

    • Ongoing academic support and mentorship

    • Guidance in integrating into Ugandan campus life and local church communities

    Ongoing Student Support

Support doesn’t stop after your first week.

    • Peer Mentors – You’ll be paired with a continuing student who’s been where you are and is trained to walk alongside you

    • Counseling Services – Confidential one-on-one sessions with male and female counselors and pastoral staff

    • Directorate of Community Life – Helps with everything from chapel and mentorship to personal concerns and cultural adaptation

    • Student Fellowships & Clubs – A place to belong, grow, and make friends who become family
