Africa Renewal University (AfRU) has accreditation from the Ugandan government:
- AfRU was granted a provisional license in June 2010 to operate as a tertiary institution by the National Council for Higher Education (NCHE). This allowed the university to offer programs that are accredited by NCHE.
- Chartered Status: In March 2024, AfRU was granted a charter by the Ugandan President. This elevated AfRU to the same category as public universities and allowed it to offer all levels of degrees, including doctoral programs.
