Program Description:

Postgraduate Diploma in Education programme offers courses that are demand driven is all sectors. The curriculum is developed with room for flexibility to accommodate new trends in education. The overall goal of the programme is to provide students with knowledge, skills and appropriate attitudes in planning and management of education institutions and services. This will enable them to effectively participate in the development of human capital as an academic discipline and to improve the standards of management in the education services. In the end, this will offer our students great carrier opportunity that would assist them in contributing to better human capital development which is a prerequisite for national development.

The increasing need for growth of the Education sector demands for a high degree of professionalism in the education sector. This it calls for teacher trainers, educational managers, planners and other experts like policy makers in the area of education. The program has been designed to suit the high demand of Education professionals and experts to provide quality services in the education sector. The programme will therefore provide integrated training in planning organizing and managing the education sector, and also provide students with appropriate knowledge, skills and competencies in education service delivery, educational systems management, Education planning and policy making promotion while continuing to promote moral integrity, traditional values and culture.

The objectives of this programme are to:
1. Introduce the learners to the concepts and principles of education
2. Equip the learners with the skills and knowledge in strategic education planning, and management of educational organizations and systems.
3. Explore the essential foundations to education and its change, and in view of this have them explore practical case studies in contemporary issues that justify innovations in education.
4. Study the theoretical and practical knowledge of designing, developing and implementing educational programs.
5. Study the various theories and models of teaching and learning and their implications for teaching and learning in Uganda and elsewhere.
6. Prepare learners for lifelong learning.

Entry Requirement

A candidate must have obtained at least second class lower in a relevant field at bachelor’s level from a recognized institution

The programme will be facilitated by carefully selected and qualified personnel with relevant specialties in the areas of study they handle. Professionals with a wide range of proven practical experience are generally preferred. This is because the Institution’s overall objective is to train an individual who is in touch with the practical realities of the job market and well versed with technology.

Assessment of the Courses
Except where stated, each course shall be assessed on the basis of 100 total marks with proportions as
follows:
