Community Engagement Activities

Every other week, a team of students heads out—not to a classroom, but into the community. They might be scrubbing a sidewalk, painting a police station wall, praying for someone in a hospital bed, or spending the afternoon with a group of kids who need more than just a smile.

These are missions at AfRU. It’s real, it’s raw, and it’s not optional. It’s what we believe the gospel looks like when it puts on shoes and steps out the door.

Led by the Directorate of Community Life

This isn’t a side project or a one-time event. Outreach is organized, intentional, and ongoing. The Directorate of Community Life plans every detail—from transport to who’s preaching to what kind of paint to bring for the community center’s front gate. Some teams go to nearby towns, others to refugee camps. Students in theology, social work, and public health often have course-related outreach, but it’s open to anyone who wants to go and serve.

This Is Who We Are

We don’t just talk about service. We do it—with open hands and hearts. Not every student who joins is bold at first. Some just observe. Others pray quietly. But by the end, something shifts. Missions help students see that faith isn’t just something you carry in your heart—it’s something you carry out into the world.
