We admit international students into all academic levels:

Our programs are offered in English, and we provide support throughout your journey from application to arrival, registration to graduation.
Academic Requirements
For Undergraduate Applicants
To be eligible for undergraduate study at AfRU, international applicants must meet the following:
Academic Qualifications
- Completion of secondary education equivalent to Uganda’s Senior 6 (A-Level)
- An average grade of 50% or higher
- Applicants from Kenya’s 8-4-4 system or other similar structures must obtain a Higher Education Certificate (HEC) before pursuing a degree
- Your academic credentials may need to be equated by the Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB)
Language Proficiency
If your education was not in English, you’ll need to submit proof of English proficiency through one of the following:
- IELTS
- TOEFL
- Other internationally recognized equivalents
Higher Education Certificate (HEC)
If your academic background does not directly meet Uganda’s university entry criteria, you may be required to complete the HEC bridging program before starting your degree.
- A minimum CGPA of 3.0 is required for degree admission
- If your CGPA is below 3.0, you may be considered for a Diploma program

Minimum Requirements
- A recognized Bachelor’s degree (equivalent to Uganda’s university qualifications) with at least a Second Class Lower
- Strong academic background in the relevant field
- Statement of purpose detailing your goals and motivation
- Two letters of recommendation (academic/professional)
Additional Requirements for International Applicants
- A copy of your passport or national ID
- Proof of English proficiency (if prior education was not in English)
- Equated academic documents via UNEB or NCHE, if needed
Note: Some postgraduate programs may require a research proposal or concept note during the application process.
Visa & Immigration Support
Once you're admitted to AfRU, our team will help you navigate the student visa process. International students must apply for a Student (Class D) Visa to study in Uganda.
What You'll Need for Your Visa Application:
- Official letter of admission from AfRU
- Financial proof of ability to pay tuition and living expenses (bank statements, sponsor letters, or affidavit)
- Copy of your passport (valid for at least 6 months)
- Passport-size photograph
- Recommendation letter from AfRU’s Registrar
- Your AfRU student ID (issued upon arrival and registration)

- Airport pickup arrangements (on request)
