International Student Support at Africa Renewal University
At Africa Renewal University, we are committed to making your transition to studying in Uganda smooth, welcoming, and successful. Our dedicated International Student Support Team is here to assist you every step of the way—from the moment you apply to when you graduate. We understand the challenges of studying abroad and are here to ensure that you feel supported both academically and personally.
Our International Office is your main point of contact for all matters related to your stay at AfRU. This office is dedicated to helping international students with essential pre-arrival services and post-arrival support, ensuring you have everything you need to thrive in a new environment. Services provided by the International Office include:
• Visa and Immigration Assistance: We guide you through the visa application process, ensuring you meet all necessary requirements for entry into Uganda. Our team will also help you with visa extensions if needed.
• Pre-arrival Information: You’ll receive comprehensive pre-arrival instructions, including travel tips, important documents to bring, and what to expect upon arrival in Uganda.
• Travel Arrangements: We assist with information on flights, transport options, and arranging airport pickups so that you can have a smooth journey and arrival.
• Airport Pickup Service: Our team is available to arrange your airport pickup, ensuring you are welcomed and transported safely to the university or your accommodation.
We know that finding the right place to stay is essential for your comfort and well-being during your studies. That’s why our International Student Support Team provides guidance on both on-campus and off-campus accommodation options:
• On-Campus Housing: We offer various types of on-campus accommodation that are safe, affordable, and conveniently located for students. We’ll assist you in reserving a spot before your arrival.
• Off-Campus Housing: If you prefer to live off-campus, we provide a list of trusted landlords and rental options near the university. We also provide tips on how to choose secure and affordable housing.
Adapting to a new country and culture is a key part of the international student experience. Our Cultural Orientation Program helps you integrate into the AfRU community and Ugandan society by offering:
• Orientation Week: Upon arrival, you’ll participate in our International Student Orientation. This program includes introductory sessions on university life, cultural adaptation, Ugandan customs and laws, and useful tips for living in Uganda.
• Language and Culture Workshops: You’ll have the opportunity to engage in workshops that introduce you to local languages, traditions, and culture. This helps ensure you understand Ugandan society and can engage meaningfully with local students and community members.
• Ongoing Cultural Activities: Throughout your time at AfRU, we organize cultural events, excursions, and social activities where you can learn more about Uganda’s diverse cultures, traditions, and communities. These activities will help you build connections with local and international peers.
At AfRU, we understand that the transition to a new country can be daunting. That’s why we’ve developed our Buddy System to help new international students feel at home. Each international student is paired with a current student who acts as a mentor and guide during their first year. Our buddies provide:
• Personalized Guidance: Your buddy will help you navigate campus life, explain university procedures, and assist with daily tasks like shopping or accessing services in Uganda.
• Local Insights: They offer insider tips about the best places to visit, local food to try, and how to get involved in university clubs and activities.
• Social Support: They will introduce you to the AfRU community and help you form new friendships, making sure you feel part of the university family.
We offer a range of academic and career services to help you succeed both during and after your studies:
• Academic Counseling: International students receive personalized academic advising to help you navigate your course selection, academic challenges, and time management.
• Language Support: For non-native English speakers, we provide additional language support to help you with academic writing, reading, and speaking.
• Career Development Services: Our Career Services Office helps international students with internships, job placements, and career counseling, ensuring you’re prepared for a successful career after graduation.
Your health and wellbeing are important to us. Our Student Health Services offer:
• Medical Assistance: Basic healthcare services are available on campus. We also guide students to nearby medical centers for more specialized care.
• Counseling Services: We provide confidential counseling services to support your emotional and mental well-being as you adapt to life in Uganda.
By providing comprehensive support before, during, and after your studies, Africa Renewal University ensures that international students feel welcome, supported, and prepared for success. We look forward to helping you achieve your academic and personal goals in Uganda.
